Are you still talking about football? Yeah, football talent NFC North.

Detrone Turner:

The list of football. Welcome back everybody. This is headed north and NFC North podcast, and I'm your host, d-tron, and it's basically Sunday already, and I know you're getting the show late if you're listening. My bad, I got stuff going on, but here's what I got going for you. I'm gonna give you the briefest recap I can of the games that took place last week, and then I'm gonna tell you about what's happening on Sunday for week five, with the Lions being on a bye, the Vikings taking on the Jets, the Packers taking on the Rams and the Chicago Bears taking on the Panthers. Before we do that, though, we're going to go ahead and kick it over to our sponsors at OffRackShopcom. Offrackshopcom is an online thrift retailer. Detrone Turner:

So let's get into our divisional matchup from the past week, which was the Packers and the Vikings. Look, the Vikings got a win 31-29. And the score sort of doesn't tell the whole story, because the Vikings owned the first half. Sam Donald threw for three touchdowns in the first half. They really looked dominant. Aaron Jones added 22 rushes for 93 yards in the game, but in that fourth quarter Jordan Love came alive, threw three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and they tried to make a run at a come from behind victory. Just they just couldn't get it done. Overall, though, jordan Love threw for nearly 400 yards, jaden Reed caught about 140 of those. The run game suffered because they could not get going on the run because the Vikings jumped out to such an early lead, but in the end win hold on 31 to 29. So, looking at this week, bright and early on Sunday, you've got the Vikings 4-0 now going against the Jets, who are 2-2 in London. So prior to the season starting, when I laid out wins and losses for each team, I had the Vikings losing this game. I had the Jets coming in and winning. Although the fortunes for the Vikings have changed and I did correctly pick them to beat the Packers last week, I think A-Rod gets his life together this week in London. Sauce Garter is going to shadow JJ all across the field and I think the Jets get a win to keep Robert Sala off the hot seat for at least one more week or until they can land Devontae Adams. However that works, I do think the Jets go to London and beat the Vikings, sending them to 4-1 on the season.

Detrone Turner:

As far as the Packers go at 2-2, taking on the Rams at 1-3, they're heading to LA. The Packers take on the Rams, and I was wrong about the way that the Rams would respond to Chicago last week. I thought that having Matthew Stafford was going to be the X factor, but clearly without having their top two targets in Cooper Cup and Puka Nakua. This just isn't the same Rams team. They got most of their points on field goals last week. There was one touchdown in the fourth quarter from Kerwin Williams, but most of it was field goals. You're not going to beat good teams like that and the Packers are a good team, so I think that the Packers will be too much for the LA Rams this week. The Packers will go in and get a win against the Rams.

Detrone Turner:

Jumping over to the Detroit Lions. The Lions finally slayed this Seahawk Dragon that they have been running into for the past couple of years, who have been able to beat them at every turn. Not this time. And some props have to go out to Jared Goff on a perfect game 18 for 18, 292 yards through two passing touchdowns, including a 70 yarder to J-Mo, and then one receiving touchdown. Yes, you heard me right, jared Goff got a receiving touchdown. You heard me right, jared Goff got a receiving touchdown. That's like you can't see me right now, but my mind is physically blown. Jared Goff hit seven different receivers. The defense tapped in, got three sacks. Kirby Joseph got another pick. That's his third on the year, any second in the lead, behind Xavier McDaniels from Green Bay to lead the league with interceptions. So the defense was in there and even with all of that, geno Smith still went off. He threw for nearly 400 yards, only one passing touchdown. But their real star was Kenneth Walker, who had 80 yards on the ground but three rushing touchdowns. Dk caught seven catches for 104, but he also had a really big fumble that took some momentum away from Seahawks when they were driving. There were just some missteps by the Seahawks that kept them from being able to compete. At the end of this game.

Detrone Turner:

The Lions go on a bye week. So no game for Detroit this week. The following week they will take on the Dallas Cowboys in week six, where this could be big, but it also could be a game where Dallas is handicapped. Without Lawrence and without Parsons, who aren't going to play this week, it could be a game that the Lions get a bit of revenge in, but it could come at the cost of the Cowboys not having some of their top defensive stars in that game. And last but not least, this week the Chicago Bears took on the Rams and let me tell you, if you had DeAndre Swift on your fantasy team, he probably helped you get a win, had 16 rushes for 93 yards and a touchdown on the ground, plus seven catches for 72 yards in the air. Deandre Swift finally showed up like the person that they expected him to be when they got him in that trade this past year or this past offseason. He finally showed them what he could do and they're hoping that he can give them more of that throughout the year. Caleb was just okay 17 for 23, 157 yards, three completions for each of Cole Komet, dj Moore and Keenan. Allen. Adunze only got the one catch on the day, so he didn't make that large of an impact.

Detrone Turner:

The defense is where they picked it up. Chicago Bears defense have been performing really well, which has been a staple out of the North this year. That's not what I expected coming into the year that all of the teams would have this really good defense, but that's what you've been seeing. The Vikings that Brian Flores defense is going crazy. Uh. Green Bay's defense again Xavier McDaniel uh sorry, xavier McKinney leading the league in interceptions. The Lions defense Aiden Hutchison going crazy with the sacks. There's a lot of defensive execution happening in the North, which is really nice to see.

Detrone Turner:

Let's get back to that Bears-Rams game. The defense ended up with three sacks and Jaquan Brisker ended up with an interception. They got the win over the Rams pretty convincingly. And now the Chicago Bears, who are two and two, move on to take on the Panthers, who are one and three, and they're playing in Chicago. I think the Bears win this game, although I do believe that the Panthers are a much better team with Andy Dalton at QB. He's thrown like five passing touchdowns in the last two weeks I don't know that their starter before him through five passing touchdowns the whole second half of the year. I do believe that they are better at QB with Andy Dalton, but I think the Bears defense will be the reason that the Bears get the win. It's going to be tight. It's going to be a defensive battle. They're currently tied for eighth in passing yards given up in the league, and they're also top 10 for points given up. They're only giving up about 18 points per game, which means they clamp down on you, and for a panthers team that hasn't really been known for scoring, I don't see them being able to surpass that defense. The offense just has to do their best to not give the ball away.

Detrone Turner:

That's what I got for recaps and looking forward to this week again. Short recaps, because it's basically Sunday already and the games are getting ready to take off. What I want to give you now, though, is spreading the field, so let me recap you on how the last couple of weeks went. Week two, I was 50%, week three, I was 25%, and last week I gave you three picks. I hit one of those three, so I'm 33% from last week Overall 36.3% for spreading the field and getting you the right picks. We're going to run it back and see two and a half.

Detrone Turner:

I believe the Jets get a two field goal win here. They win by six. You won't have to worry about using those points that you're getting with the Jets. But that's what I got. They're going to London. The Jets will upset these Vikings. So take the Jets plus two and a half. Green Bay I gotta say, take Green Bay minus three. Green Bay wins by seven in this game. I just don't think the Rams have enough firepower to be able to score Again last week, kicking nothing but field goals. I don't think that's going to win against a Jordan Love team where Jordan Love threw for nearly 400 yards and Jaden Reed's out here putting up 130 yards. It's going to be tough for the LA Rams.

Detrone Turner:

And then I also have you taking in the Chicago and Panthers game. I'm actually going to tell you to take the Panthers plus four. I know I said that Chicago is going to win this game. I believe it's going to be a defensive show. This final score probably ends up being something like 14 to 16, with Chicago tacking on a couple of field goals and getting one score. I think Chicago gets a win, but it's going to be close. Take the Panthers plus four. So that's Jets plus two and a half, green Bay minus three and the Panthers plus four. Those are my picks for this week and this has been Spreading the Field Also. This has been Headed North Podcast. I'm your host, d-tron, and next week, if you decide to come back, which I hope you do. Make sure you've got your bags packed, because we are headed north. I'm Detron Peace.
